Primary Care Panel - January 13, 2015, 12pm, BSLC 115

At the Primary Care Panel, physicians from the fields of Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Med/Peds will share their path to practicing primary care with members of Pritzker's first year class. Students will learn about the variety of training programs available which can lead to a career in primary care, and learn about the opportunities and benefits of a career in the field. Miss Representation Screening and Panel Discussion! January 22, 2014, 1pm-3pm. CCD 7750

AMWA, MSFC, FMIG, and OB/GYN interest group are co-sponsoring an event to screen the 2011 film Miss Representation. Before the film, we would like to have a short discussion abouthow media and gender discrimination can affect the psychological, social, and physical health of female patients, as well as how gender discrimination might affect women going into medicine and seeking leadership positions. The following doctors will be joining us for discussion at 1:00 PM and sharing their perspectives on women's issues and medicine:

-Dr. Sonia Oyola, family physician who works with victims of domestic violence

-Dr. Holly Humphrey, the Dean for Medical Education at Pritzker

This event is relevant to anyone who cares about women or has/intends to have female patients!!! (everyone should come)

2013 Family Medicine Midwest Forum - October 4-6, 2013

The Illinois Academy of Family Physicians are hosting the 2013 Family Medicine Midwest Forum October 4-6, 2013. http://www.iafp.com/FMM/index.htm The Family Medicine Collaborative has a core mission of identifying and supporting students interested in family medicine. They are committed to communicating the value of family medicine to practicing colleagues, future colleagues and the public. This will take place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

IAFP "Spring Into Action" Advocacy Day in Springfield, IL! April 17, 2013

Join FMIG as we journey to the state capital to learn more about advocacy, our state government, and health policy. We will have the change to interact with members of the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians as well as our state legislature. Registration is free, and breakfast and lunch are provided. Adult Down Syndrome Center- May 4, 2013, 1pm

Join FMIG as we visit the Adult Down Syndrome Center at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL. Tour the center, learn about providing primary care for adults with intellectual disabilities, and hear the perspectives of Dr. Brian Chicoine (a family physician and medical director of the center) as well as a patient and her mother. 2012 Family Medicine Midwest Forum - November 11-11, 2012

Dinner Presentation "Sports Medicine" with Dr. Adam Bennett - May 29, 6pm

We are excited to have Dr. Adam Bennett come and speak with our students! Dr. Bennett is a Family Medicine doctor with a sub-specialty in Primary Care Sports Medicine. In addition to his responsibilities with Northwestern Orthopaedic Institute, Dr. Bennett has a co-authored of two medical textbooks, Blueprints in Family Medicine and Family Practice Q & A. In addition, he serves as a team physician for U.S. Soccer's Men's and Women's National Teams and the Chicago Bears.

Panel Discussion "Primary Care and Community Involvement" - February 16, 12pm-1pm

We are inviting four primary care doctors who do interesting and robust work with community organizations to speak about how they extend their clinical work into serving the community. The panelists: Dr. Sonia Oyola, a family medicine doctor who practices integrative medicine and runs a domestic violence non-profit "Be Alright"; Dr. Icy Cade-Bell, a pediatrician at Friend Family Health Center who works with the Mobile Health Care Van; Dr. Alana Nzoma, a pediatrician at Friend Family Health Center who runs a clinic for teen moms and their babies at Friend Family; Dr. Paul Luning, the Chief Medical Officer of the PCC Community Wellness Center, an organization that offers community-based health care services for the medically underserved living in Chicago's west side and near west suburbs and Dr. James Mitchell, a general pediatrician with an interest in children in foster care.

Brown Bag Lunch "A Day in the Life of a Family Medicine Doctor" - December 8, 12pm-1pm

The Family Medicine Interest Group would like to invite you to an exciting lunch event with U of C family medicine physicians on Thursday, December 8th from 12-1pm in BSLC 240. The lunch will be focused on learning about what a day in the life of a family medicine physician is really like. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet U of C family medicine physicians who work in a variety of community clinics throughout Chicago. At the lunch, we will also be holding sign-ups for shadowing opportunities with family medicine physicians who focus on many different areas such as sports medicine, women's health, and integrative medicine.

2011 National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students July 28-30th Kansas City, Kansas

This three-day event is designed for residents and medical students. Family medicine leaders and educators conduct special lectures, workshops, procedures courses, and clinics. More than 300 family medicine residency programs are represented in the Exposition Hall. The National Congress of Family Medicine Residents and the National Congress of Student Members hold their annual meetings during the conference.

AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students - Poster Presentations

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is now accepting applications for poster presentations at the 2011 National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students scheduled for July 28 - 30 (Thursday - Saturday). The poster categories are: clinical inquiry, community project, educational program, and research. The contest is open to AAFP resident and student members. The submission deadline is April 15.
