Where We Practice

At University of Chicago (NorthShore) Family Medicine Residency, our training takes place primarily in the NorthShore Hospital system. Check out the pages below to learn more about our different training sites.

NorthShore University HealthSystem

Headquartered in Evanston, Illinois, NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) is a comprehensive, fully integrated, healthcare delivery system that serves the Chicago and North Shore region. The system includes four hospitals in Evanston, Glenview, Highland Park and Skokie.

NorthShore continues to be distinguished with numerous awards and honors, including Thomson Reuters "100 Top Hospitals" recognizing leading clinical performance, quality and efficiency and U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals. NorthShore has also earned Magnet designation -- the ultimate credential for high quality nursing.

A national leader in the implementation of innovative technologies, including Epic EMR system, NorthShore was among the first in the country to successfully launch a system-wide EMR, and has been recognized by multiple national organizations and named "most Wired" by Hospitals and Health Networks.

The NorthShore Research Institute focuses on clinical and translational research, including leadership in outcomes research and clinical trials and has been ranked among the top ten in the nation among Comprehensive Independent Research Hospitals in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The integrated health system has significant capabilities in a wide spectrum of clinical programs, including cancer, heart, orthopaedics, high-risk maternity, pediatrics and its NorthShore Neurological and Urological Institutes.

NorthShore serves the culturally-rich and diverse Chicago and north suburban area, which features excellent schools, extensive park district programs and vibrant communities to live in, work in and raise families.

Our Clinics

Erie Evanston Skokie Family Health Center
The Erie Evanston Skokie Family Health Center located at 1285 Hartrey Avenue in Evanston, Illinois is the new home for the primary continuity office for the residency program. As a FQHC, Erie provides high quality patient care for the urban suburban underserved of the community. With the 7,000 diverse patients and 24,000 visits performed last year Erie provides a rich learning environment for the residents. Support staff in case management, social work, and psychology assist providers with patient care. Ten percent of the patients speak Spanish as their preferred language. The office uses the Centricity electronic health record system.

Glenbrook Family Care Center
The Glenbrook Family Care Center, situated at Glenbrook Hospital, hosts the residents for longitudinal experiences in Geriatrics and Behavioral Medicine. Residents work with two board certified Geriatricians to learn the specifics of caring for the elderly. Residents travel with the Geriatricians to local skilled nursing and assisted living facilities to provide ongoing patient care during the second and third years of training. A clinical psychologist works with residents to learn cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing skills to better assist patients. Residents are intermittently given the opportunity to self-reflect by reviewing video recording of their patient interactions.
