Biographical Sketch
Dr. Mendoza joined the faculty in the the Department of Family Medicine
in 2005. His research focuses on practice- and community-based
interventions that target disparities in health care for medical
underserved communities and on the dissemination and implementation of
evidence-based medicine into clinical practice and teaching in
underserved settings. Dr. Mendoza is also actively involved in
teaching, serving as a clinical preceptor and lecturer for the 3rd year
clerkship in Family medicine, and as a medical student advisor and
course advisor for a number of independent student electives focusing
on health policy and clinical care in underserved settings.
In addition to his research and teaching responsibilities in the
department, Dr. Mendoza is a National Health Service Corps scholar and
practices outpatient family medicine at the Chicago Family Health
Center, a federally-qualified health center and Urban Health Initiative
clinic located int he South Chicago neighborhood of Chicago. Dr.
Mendoza leads the Health Disparities Collaborative in diabetes at
Chicago Family Health and has additional training in medical
informatics and implementation of electronic health records.
Locally, Dr. Mendoza is a member of the Chicago Area Schweitzer
Fellowship Advisory Council and advises students as part of the
Pritzker Community Service Fellowship. He is a founding member of
the Filipino-american Community Health Initiative of Chicago. He
is currently co-editor of First Aid for Family Medicine, a board review
textbook for family physicians. In his spare time, he races
sailboats competitively on Lake Michigan and is an award-winning
amateur photographer.
