Family Medicine Scholarship

The Department of Family Medicine aims to build interdisciplinary research programs that both serve the local community and have a national/international impact. We provide intellectual leadership in setting the family medicine research agenda and have numerous opportunities to engage in research and scholarship to advance that agenda.

Most research projects are conducted in community clinical practice settings in the Chicago area. Department faculty are researching issues relevant to the health of the communities they serve, focusing on ways to improve the safety and quality primary care service delivery. A current series of studies is evaluating the effects of a pay for performance compensation plan on physicians and patients of the Access Community Health Network.

In addition to this emphasis upon practice-based research, the department provides fellowship training and other opportunities as part of a rich environment for the development of junior faculty into independent investigators.
